By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of coding.

2. give reasons for learning coding.

The pupils can define a computer as a device designed to work with information or data.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Functional computer systems and other devices.

2. A programmer

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF CODING 

Coding is a set of instructions given to a computer to perform a specific task.

Coding makes us to communicate with computers, command a computer what actions to take.

 

USES OF CODING

The uses of coding are as follows:

1. Web design

2. Online design

3. Mobile applications such as games, etc.

4. Shopping online such as jumia and konga.

5. Trading such local and international trading, forex, etc.

6. Social media such as facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.

7. Traffic control

8. Communication and transportation

9. Finding location and direction using map.

10. Payment gateway, etc.

 

 

LESSON 2 – BENEFITS OF CODING 

The benefits of coding are as follows:

1. Problem solving

2. Creativity

3. Digital literacy

4. Job opportunities

5. Team work

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson review.

2. Uses mobile applications, software applications, etc. to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the uses and benefits of coding.

3. Leads a discussion on the uses and benefits of coding.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

4. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in lesson summary and write as instructed.
