PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to:
1. explain the meaning of wages and salary.
2. differentiate the between wages and salaries.
3. state the reasons why people work.
4. identify ways of rewarding workers.
5. identify the problems of income distribution in Nigeria.
6. identify ways of solving those problems.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are required to already have learned money in their previous classes.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION
MEANING OF WAGES
A wage is money earned or received by workers for work done or services rendered.
It is paid on a daily or weekly basis. Wages can also be paid at the end of the month. This is usually called salary.
MEANING OF SALARY
A salary is money earned or received by workers for work done or services rendered. It is paid on a monthly basis.
MEANING OF INCOME
Income is the total amount of money a worker earns.
It includes – wages, profits, interests and rents.
INCOME DISTRIBUTION
Income distribution is the distribution of money among the people.
If everyone earned equally, the income distribution is perfectly equally or distributed. But if one person earned all, then it is perfectly unequalled or undistributed.
Income distribution is usually fall between the equal and unequal.
REASONS WHY PEOPLE WORK
There are so many reasons why people work.
Some of them are as follows –
1. People work in order to earn money.
2. People work because it is not good to be idle.
3. Practice what they have learnt.
4. People work to become responsible.
5. People to gain respect from other people in society.
6. People work to keep their body and mind healthy. .
7. People work to live well and be also help others.
LESSON TWO – THE WAYS WORKERS ARE PAID OR HOW WORKER ARE REWARDED
1. Payment of salaries
2. Payment of allowance
3. Promotion for hard work
4. Payment of dividend to workers
5. Payment of bonuses, etc.
PROBLEMS FACED BY WORKERS
1. Low wages and salaries
2. Delay in payment
3. Non – recognition
4. Stagnation
REVISION AND WEEK 2 LESSON ASSESSMENT
As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Explains and guides the pupils in discussing the concept of wage, salary and income;
Pupil’s Activities – Explain the relationship and different between wage, salary and income.
3. Leads pupils in discussing the reasons why people work;
Pupil’s Activities – State the reasons why people work.
4. Explains the problems faced by workers;
Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the problems faced by workers.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
- Assignment –
- Find out why it is important to work and earn salaries.
- Find out from home how workers are rewarded.
