LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils have already practised reading and reciting poems. In this lesson, they will use that knowledge to write their own simple poems using rhyming words.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A poem is a piece of writing that expresses feelings or ideas in short lines, often with rhythm and rhyming words.
FEATURES OF A SIMPLE POEM
1. It has short lines.
2. It may have rhyming words.
3. It expresses feelings or ideas.
4. It is read with rhythm.
SIMPLE POEM
1. My School
My school is bright and neat,
Where I learn and sit on my seat.
My teachers teach me every day,
To read, to write, to work and play.
2. My Family
My family is kind and sweet,
They make my life so happy and neat.
We laugh, we play, we work each day,
Together we learn and grow this way.
3. My Friend
My friend is kind and true,
He helps me in all I do.
We learn and play each day,
And laugh along the way.
PRACTICE EXERCISE
Write a short poem of 4–6 lines on any of the following:

SUMMARY
