LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Explain the meaning of a letter of congratulations.
2. State occasions for writing a congratulatory letter.
3. Identify the features of a congratulatory letter.
4. Write a simple letter of congratulations.
5. Use appropriate expressions in congratulatory letters.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils already know the format of letters. This lesson helps them write letters expressing happiness for another person’s success or achievement.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

2. Whiteboard and marker/chalkboard and chalk

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A letter of congratulations is a letter written to express happiness, joy, and good wishes to someone who has achieved success or experienced a happy event.
We write congratulatory letters for occasions such as:
- Success in examinations
- Promotion
- Winning a competition
- Birthday celebration
- Graduation
Features of a Letter of Congratulations
- Writer’s address
- Date
- Salutation
- Body of the letter
- Complimentary close
- Name of the writer
