PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. List three substances that can be Abused

2. Mention two substances that are regarded as drugs

3. Give two examples of poisons.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

charts showing various drugs.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

There are substances that are regular as drugs. These substances are very dangerous because they affect the body and mind.

 

 

These substances are:

1. Narcotics

Narcotics are substances that boost energy and aid self confidence.

These substances can be smoked, sniffed or swallowed.

For example, Indian hemp, tobacco, codeine, etc.

 

2. Stimulants

Stimulants are substances that make people active and happy.

They can be sniffed or injected in the body.

For example,

1. Cocaine

2. Heroine.

 

3. Sedative

Sedatives are substances that make people to suppress emotional pain or make them to sleep. For example, alcohol.

 

4. Hallucinogens

Hallucinogen substances are substances that make people unpredictable and to have wrong judgment.

For example,

1. Tobacco

2.cigarettes

 

5. Poison

Poison are substances that can damage human body.

For example,

1. Izal

2. Dettol

3. Bleach

4. Kerosene

5. Petrol

6. Iodine

7. Detergent

8. Herbicide

9. Pesticide

10. Acid

 

 

LESSON TWO – OTHER SUBSTANCES THAT ARE REGULARLY AS DRUG ABUSE/SUBSTANCES THAT CAN BE ABUSED

1. Marijuana – Indian hemp (we-we, igbo, grass)

2. Alcoholic drinks (ogogoro, kai-kai)

3. Coffee

4. Kola nut

5. Snuff

6. Palm wine

 

REVISION AND WEEK 13 ASSIGNMENT (TEST) 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discusses the following with pupils – substances regular as drugs;

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in class discussion on substances regular as drugs.

3. Gives examples of poison;

Pupil’s Activities – Gives examples of poison.

4. Questions and answers;

Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask and answer questions.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
