PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to classify crops according to their life spans.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of different types of crops according to their life span.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
CLASSIFICATION OF CROPS ACCORDING THEIR LIFE SPAN
Crops can be grouped according to their life span as follows –
- Annuals
- Biennials
- Perennials
ANNUAL CROPS
Annual crops are crops that grow and live for about one year.
Maize, okro, onion and carrot, yam, maize, rice, groundnut, millet, garden egg, sorghum, cassava and potato are examples of annual crops.
BIENNIAL CROPS
Biennial crops are crops that grow and live for about two years.
Pepper, alligator pepper, plantain, sugarcane, pineapple and pawpaw are are examples of biennial crops.
PERENNIALS CROPS
Perennial crops are crops that grow and live for more two years.
Oil palm, cocoa, mango, citrus, guava and kola are examples of perennial crops.

PRESENTATION
- To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
- To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
- Guides pupils to identify the following crops – maize, pepper, pineapple, cocoa, etc.
- Pupil’s Activities – Identify the following crops – maize, pepper, pineapple, cocoa, etc.
- Lists classes of crops according to their life span.
- Pupil’s Activities – List classes of crops according to their life span.
- Explains each of the classes of crops listed.
- Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the explanation and give more examples of classes of crops according to their life span.
- Summarize the lesson on board.

CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
