TOPIC – MEASURING LIQUIDS

LEARNING AREA

Lesson One – Units of Volume and Comparing Volumes

Lesson Two – Measuring the Volume of Liquid

Lesson Three – Improvising Measuring Cylinder

Revision and Test

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME

  1. By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. state the metric unit of volume;

2. measure amounts of liquids accurately using graduated measuring cylinders, cups or jars;

3. improvise a measuring cylinder with estimated scales for volumes in metric system.

RATIONALE

Measurement is the action of measuring something.

Volume is the space that is enclosed by a vessel or occupied by a substance.

The international unit of volume measurement is the cubic metre and cubic centimetre.

There are 1000 cubic centimetres in a litre.

Life is so much easier when we know how to measure things, and that is why measurement is so important.

LEARNING MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. meter rule

2. tape rule

3. desks and tables in the classroom

4. string

5. pieces of thread

6. notebook, and pencil.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Measurement is an important part of daily activities. We can measure time, weight, height, temperature, length, speed, and more.

The pupils are also involved in measurement.
