By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. count correctly from 1 – 10.

2. identify and read numbers from 1 – 10.

3. sort and classify numbers of objects on number 1 – 10.

4. identify, order and write numbers up to 10.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can count and read whole numbers from 1 – 10.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Counters: balls, pebbles, buttons, bottle tops, leaves and oranges etc.

2. Flash cards of numbers 1 – 10.

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Numbers that we can use to count things are called counting numbers, for example 1, 2, 3, and so on. They are also called natural numbers.

LESSON 5 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pair depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing numbers 1 – 10.

4. Teacher leads the pupils as groups to identify number chart.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify the number 1 – 10 chart.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction.

6. Teacher leads the pupils as groups to count numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils count numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

7. Teacher guides identifies and reads numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and read numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

8. Teacher displays different objects in group of 1 – 10. For example, one ball, two pencils, three rulers, etc. and asks the pupils in groups to sort and count.

Pupils Activities – The pupils sort and classify objects leading to idea of 1 – 10.

9. Teacher guides the pupils write numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

Pupils Activities – The pupils write numbers from 1 – 10 and 10 – 1.

10. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
