TOPIC – FORMS OF GREETINGS 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to perform various acts of greetings in their locality.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of draw different ways of greetings they can identify.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 1 – HOW DO YOU GREETINGS IN THE MORNING, AFTERNOON AND EVENING/NIGHT 

GREETINGS IN YORUBA 

1. Morning – E kaaro (Good morning)
2. Afternoon – E kaasan (Good afternoon)
3. Evening/Night – E ku irole / E kale (Good evening)

GREETINGS IN IGBO 

1. Morning – Ututu oma or Ibolachi (Good morning)
2. Afternoon – Ezigbo ehihi (Good afternoon)
3. Evening – Mgbede oma (Good evening)

GREETINGS IN HAUSA

1.  Morning – Ina Kuana Barka da safe (Good morning)
2. Afternoon – Barka day amma (Good afternoon)
3. Evening – Barka day amma (Good evening)

TEACHER’S/PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 2 – MEANING OF GREETINGS

Greetings is a way of showing respect to people and appreciating them.

Guide the pupils to discuss the meaning of greetings. 

PUPIL’S ACTIVITIES 3 – IDENTIFY AND DEMONSTRATE FORMS OF GREETINGS/VARIOUS WAYS OF GREETINGS IN OUR COMMUNITY

1. Kneel down (girls)
2. Prostrate (Boys)
3. Bend (both boys and girls)
4. Salute (police, military, students, etc.)
5. Hands shaking (friends)
6. Hugging (friends and family)
7. Clenching of fist (boys and girls), etc.

Guide the pupils to demonstrate various ways of greetings in our culture – Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. 

PRESENTATION

• To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Demonstrates the various ways of greeting in our culture.
3. Pupil’s Activities – Draw different ways of greetings they can identify.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to list different ways of greeting from different cultures in Nigeria.
