By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. Name local energy giving food.

2. Identify energy giving foods.

Yam, cocoyam, cassava, potato, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Charts of energy giving foods.

2. Energy giving food stuff specimens.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Displays samples or chart showing body energy giving food of tuber and grain origins for the pupils to identify by name, listen to the pupils and note their points on the board and tell them, all these identified foods are called ENERGY GIVING FOODS – CARBOHYDRATES. 

Pupil’s Activities – Names energy giving foods on the chart.

 

ENERGY GIVING FOODS 

1. Yam

2. Cassava

3. Plantain

 

 

4. Bread

5. Rice

6. Maize

7. Sweet potato

8. Flour

8. Guinea corn

9. Millet, etc.

 

MEANING OF CARBOHYDRATE FOODS 

Carbohydrates are the energy giving foods.

 

Note – Read and let the pupils read after you. Always make your meaning or definition as simple as you can.

 

LOCAL ENERGY GIVING FOODS 

Teacher’s Activities – Leads the pupils to mention local energy giving foods eaten in their locality –

1. Rice

2. Amala

3. Eba or garri

4. Pounded yam

5. Porridge

6. Tuwo

7. Fufu, etc.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays charts of energy giving foods.

Pupil’s Activities – Observe charts of energy giving foods found in the locality

4. Teachers/Pupil’s Activities – Bring some examples of energy giving foods from home.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
