CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Displays a functional computer system (if available) or chart showing computer keyboard for the pupils to identify computer keyboard as input device and describes.

Pupil’s response – Identify and describe computer keyboard.

Teacher’s remark – Computer keyboard is one of the input device with many keys (buttons). Give a great cheer for active response and description. Discuss the meaning of computer keyboard and guide the pupils to identify and state the types of computer keyboard.

MEANING OF COMPUTER KEYBOARD

A computer keyboard is one of the input devices used with computer system.

 

 

A keyboard is made of buttons that create letters, numbers, and symbols, as well as other functions.

 

TYPES OF A KEYBOARD

There are four major types of computer keyboards, namely:

1. Alphabetic keys

  • A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z.

 

2. Numeric keyboard

  • 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

 

3. Symbols or Special Characters key

  • # ₦ & _ – ( ) = % +? !  / : % ” * ‘ : [ ] $ € ¥ ¤ © ® , etc

 

4. Functional keys

  • F1 – F2

 

LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL USES OF COMPUTER KEYBOARD 

Teacher’s Activities – Get a functional computer system and guide the pupils to type their names, perform basic arithmetic operations and other functions.

Pupil’s response – Follow the teacher’s instructions to execute the basic use of computer keyboard.

Teacher’s remark – Computer keyboard is an input device and can be used as –

USES OF COMPUTER KEYBOARD 

1. It is used for typing letters, e.g. names, etc.

2. It is used for typing numbers.

3. It is used to enter symbols or characters.

 

 

4. It it used for scrolling up, down, right and left.

5. It is used for adding, subtracting, multiplying and diving.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays a functional computer system for pupils to identify computer keyboard as input device.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and describe computer keyboard.

3. Leads pupils to use computer keyboard to input information into the computer.

Pupil’s Activities –

  • Observe teacher’s activity.
  • Type short sentences using the computer keyboard.
