CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Basketball is one of the ball games played with hands by shooting a ball through a raised goal called a basket.

It is a limited contact sport played on a rectangular court.

Three – on – three, two – on – two, and one – on – one competitions are also common basketball games or competitions.

 

NIGERIAN BASKETBALL TEAMS 

The Nigeria national basketball team represents Nigeria in men’s international basketball and it is overseen by the Nigeria Basketball Federation.

The name of the men’s team is called D’Tigers while the women is called

The Nigeria men’s national basketball team called D’Tigers while the women’s team is called D’Tigeress.

LESSON 2 – BASKETBALL BASIC SKILLS

THROWING

Throwing skill combined the ability to pass ball to a team member who is open or shot when you the chance.

 

BOUNCING 

Bouncing skill is ability to move the ball up and down.

 

CATCHING

Catching is the skill that help to receive ball from the teammate, rebound or missed shot.

 

PASSING

Passing is the skill that help the players to become complete basketball team.

It involves locating the team member who is open for a shot.

 

SHOOTING

Shooting is the ability to properly avoid the defender, hold and throw the ball into the air toward the basket.

 

DRIBBLING

Dribbling allow you to move up and down the court, maneuver past defenders and execute plays.

 

DEFENDING

Defending is the skill that help the player to the opponent from advancing.

 

BLOCKING

Blocking is the ability to stop the opponent shot.

 

 

LESSON 3 – PRACTICE AND DEMONSTRATE THE BASIC SKILLS IN BASKETBALL

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays showing different ball games.

3. Asks pupils to identify ball games, describe and differentiate between them.

Pupil’s Activities – Examine the chart, identify and differentiate between ball games.

4. Listen to the pupils, use the chart and their responses to introduce the lesson – basic skills in basketball.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction.

5. Leads a discussion on basketball and how it is played.

Pupil’s Activities – Describe basketball game.

6. Teaches and demonstrates the basic skills in basketball.

Pupil’s Activities – Learn and watch their teacher demonstrate the basic skills in basketball.

7. Supervises the pupils as they practice and demonstrate basic skills in basketball.

8. Summarizes the lessons on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
