By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. recognize different denominations of Nigerian coins.
2. add coins to obtain sums not exceeding 25k.
3. calculate change obtainable from 10k or less.
4. trace coins using brown and white papers.
Naira is not the only currencies in Nigeria. Kobo is part of Nigerian currencies. Kobo are the smallest unit that can made up naira. For example, 100k equal ₦10.
The concept of money will enable the pupils to identify and recognise kobo as part of Nigerian currencies and able to express its sum.
The pupils can identify denominations of naira notes.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Actual coins
2. model coins or paper coins
3. Tracing paper
4. Brown paper
5. White paper

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION TO KOBO
ACTIVITY 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES (NAIRA NOTES)
Teacher’s Activities – Display different denomination of naira from the smallest (₦5) to the highest (₦1,000) for the pupils to identify each of the note and state the uses of money.
Pupil’s Activities – This is money. ₦5, ₦10, etc. Money is used for buy or selling things.
Teacher’s Remarks – Correct. ₦5 – ₦1,000 are Nigerian currencies known as naira notes. Naira notes are not the only currencies spent in Nigeria.
ACTIVITY 2 – KOBO
Teacher’s Activities – Display the real coins of ½k, 1k, 5k, 10, 25k for the pupils to examine, compare with the naira notes and tell the difference.
Pupil’s Activities – This is iron while this is paper.
Teacher’s Remarks – Correct. Both of them are Nigerian currencies. Apart from the naira denominations, other denominations are in coins known as kobo (k). Ask the pupils to read each number on the coin and note them on the board.

ACTIVITY 3 – SUM OF TWO OR THREE MORE COINS
Teacher’s Activities – Ask the pupils some summative numbers such as 1 + 5, 5 + 10 and 25 + 1. Also, guide the pupils to answer in the questions in kobo. For example, 1k + 5k, 5k + 10k and 25k + 1k.
Pupil’s Activities – 1 + 5 = 6, 5 + 10 = 15 and 25 + 1 = 26. 1k + 5k = 6k, 5k + 10k = 15k and 25k + 1k = 26k.
Teacher’s Remarks – Correct. Good job you for quick and correct responses. Just like naira notes, two or more coins can also be add together.

LESSON 2 – SHOPPING WITH A 10K PIECE AND RECEIVING CHANGE
Teacher’s Activities – Create a shopping corner with price tags in kobo for the pupils shop with change or without change.
Pupil’s Activities – Use different denominations in kobo to buy and sell in kobo.
Teacher’s Remarks – One clap cheer for yourself. You have all done a great job.
MORE QUICK EVALUATION IN ORAL
Ask the pupils –
1. I have 25k and buy something of 10k, how much is my change?
2. A woman sell sweets to two boys. One of the boy buy 5k sweet and the other buy 10k sweets. How much sweets the woman sell?
LESSON 3 – TRACING OF COINS
Get brown paper and give the pupils to trace different denomination of coins on the paper.
LESSON 4 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT
As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Leads pupils through various activities to recognize the different denominations of Nigeria coins.
Pupil’s Activities – Give a collection of coins. And identify some as specified by the teacher.
2. Devises suitable games for pupils to play in order to recognize the coins.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the game to recognize the coins.
3. Uses Flash cards to show addition of coins.
Pupil’s Activities – Do simple exercises on the addition of money not exceeding 25k.
4. Guides pupils in practical experience in buying and selling.
Pupil’s Activities – Calculate change when they buy or sell something by a simple game.
5. Traces various denominations of Nigerian coins using: brown paper and crayon; white paper and pencil.
Pupil’s Activities – Trace any given coin.
6. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
