CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever wondered why people exercise every day? Activities such as running, jumping, stretching, skipping, and walking help to keep the body fit and healthy. A healthy body allows us to play, learn, and carry out our daily activities without getting tired easily.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of physical fitness, the types of exercises used to improve physical fitness, and the importance of staying physically fit.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF PHYSICAL FITNESS

Physical fitness is the ability of the body to perform daily activities, sports, and exercises without getting tired quickly.

A physically fit person is healthy, strong, active, and energetic.

TYPES OF EXERCISES IN PHYSICAL FITNESS

1. Walking – Walking is moving from one place to another by putting one foot in front of the other at a normal speed. Walking helps to keep the body active and healthy.

2. Running – Running is moving faster than walking by using quick steps. Running strengthens the heart, lungs, and muscles.

3. Jumping – Jumping is lifting the body off the ground with one or both feet and landing safely. Jumping improves balance, strength, and coordination.

4. Skipping – Skipping is jumping repeatedly over a rope while swinging it around the body. Skipping strengthens the body and improves endurance.

5. Stretching – Stretching is moving the arms, legs, and body gently to make the muscles flexible. Stretching makes the muscles flexible and reduces body stiffness.

6. Sit-ups – Sit-ups are exercises in which a person lies on the back, bends the knees, and raises the upper body to strengthen the stomach muscles. Sit-ups strengthen the stomach muscles.

7. Push-ups – Push-ups are exercises in which a person supports the body with the hands and toes and raises and lowers the body to strengthen the arms, shoulders, and chest muscles. Push-ups strengthen the arms, shoulders, and chest.
