CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Before a drama is performed on stage, the actors and actresses must first be selected for different roles. They also need to practise many times so that they can perform confidently and avoid mistakes. This process of selecting performers is called casting, while the repeated practice before the final performance is called rehearsal.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of casting and rehearsal, the steps involved in the casting process, and how to plan a simple rehearsal schedule for a successful drama performance.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF CASTING

Casting is the process of selecting suitable actors and actresses to play different roles in a drama or stage production.

CASTING PROCESS

The casting process usually involves the following steps:

1. Reading and understanding the script.

2. Identifying the different characters.

3. Auditioning interested actors and actresses.

4. Selecting the most suitable person for each role.

5. Assigning roles to the selected performers.

A rehearsal schedule is a plan showing the dates, times, and activities for rehearsals.

A good rehearsal schedule should include:
