CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Many songs are more enjoyable when people sing together as a group. In schools, churches, and special events, groups of singers called choirs perform songs under the direction of a choir conductor. Choral singing requires teamwork, discipline, correct rhythm, and harmony.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of choral singing, the different types of choirs, the importance of choral singing, and participate in a simple group singing activity.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF CHORAL SINGING

Choral singing is the performance of songs by a group of singers who sing together under the guidance of a choir director or conductor.

CLASSIFICATION (TYPES) OF CHORAL SINGING

Choral singing can be classified into:

1. Children’s Choir – A choir made up of children.

2. Male Choir – A choir consisting only of male singers.

3. Female Choir – A choir consisting only of female singers.

4. Mixed Choir – A choir made up of both male and female singers.

5. School Choir – A choir organised in schools for pupils and students.

6. Church Choir – A choir that sings during religious services.

SUMMARY
