This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils the characteristics of good governance and why they are important in society.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Pupils have seen leaders in their school and community making decisions, giving instructions, and helping people. They have also seen people expressing their opinions, leaders telling the truth, and adults working in different jobs. Good leaders are expected to be honest, listen to the people, and create opportunities for citizens to work and live better lives.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about the characteristics of good governance, including transparency, freedom of speech, sincerity, and the provision of jobs.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

Good governance is the proper and honest way of leading and managing the affairs of a country or community for the benefit of everyone.

CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

1. Transparency – Transparency means being open and honest in government activities. Leaders tell the truth and do not hide important information from the people.

2. Freedom of Speech – Freedom of speech means people have the right to express their opinions respectfully without fear, as long as they obey the law and respect others.

3. Sincerity – Sincerity means being honest, truthful, and faithful in carrying out duties. Good leaders keep their promises and work for the good of the people.

4. Provision of Jobs – A good government creates employment opportunities so that people can work, earn a living, and support their families.

SUMMARY
