CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
People often move their bodies naturally when they hear music or a drumbeat. These movements become more enjoyable when they are done in a creative and organised way. Such movements are called creative rhythmic activities.
In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning, types, and importance of creative rhythmic activities and participate in simple rhythmic exercises.
LESSON 2 – MEANING OF CREATIVE RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES
Creative rhythmic activities are body movements performed in time with music, songs, clapping, drumbeats, or other rhythms to express ideas, feelings, and enjoyment while improving physical fitness and coordination.
TYPES OF CREATIVE RHYTHMIC ACTIVITIES
1. Singing Games – These are activities in which pupils sing and move their bodies together while playing games.
2. Action Songs – These are songs performed with body movements and actions that match the words of the song.
3. Folk Dance – These are traditional dances performed to the music and culture of a particular community or ethnic group.
4. Creative Dance – This is a dance in which pupils create and express their own movements freely in response to music or rhythm.
5. Aerobic Dance – This is a series of continuous body movements performed to lively music to improve physical fitness.
6. Marching Activities – These involve walking or marching in rhythm while following music, drumbeats, or commands.
7. Clapping and Body Rhythm Activities – These involve clapping hands, stamping feet, snapping fingers, or tapping different parts of the body to create rhythm.
