ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned the meaning of Adobe Photoshop, its uses, and how to launch the application. They also identified the Photoshop workspace and became familiar with some basic features of the software.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing the toolbar tools used for drawing and painting objects in Adobe Photoshop. Pupils will learn the functions of these tools and use them to create simple drawings and apply colours.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Adobe Photoshop provides different tools that help artists, designers, and photographers create and edit pictures. These tools make it easy to draw shapes, paint objects, erase unwanted parts, select objects, and add colours to designs.

In this lesson, pupils will learn to identify the common toolbar tools in Adobe Photoshop, understand their functions, and use them to draw and paint simple objects.

MEANING OF ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing software developed by Adobe Inc. It is used to create, edit, draw, paint, and enhance digital images, photographs, and graphic designs.

Photoshop is widely used by graphic designers, photographers, artists, and publishers to produce high-quality digital artwork and visual designs.

COMMON TOOLBAR TOOLS IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

The Toolbar is located on the left side of the Photoshop workspace. It contains tools used for selecting, drawing, painting, editing, and modifying images.

1. Move Tool – Used to move images, shapes, text, or selected objects from one position to another.

2. Marquee Tool – Used to select rectangular or elliptical areas of an image.

3. Lasso Tool – Used to draw freehand selections around an object.

4. Quick Selection Tool – Used to quickly select parts of an image by dragging over them.

5. Crop Tool – Used to remove unwanted parts of an image.

6. Brush Tool – Used to paint, draw, and colour objects using different brush sizes and styles.

7. Pencil Tool – Used to draw freehand lines with hard edges.

8. Eraser Tool – Used to erase unwanted parts of a drawing or image.

9. Paint Bucket Tool – Used to fill an enclosed area or shape with a selected colour.

10. Gradient Tool – Used to fill an object or background with a gradual blend of two or more colours.

11. Text (Type) Tool – Used to insert and edit text on a drawing or image.

12. Shape Tool – Used to draw shapes such as rectangles, circles, polygons, lines, and custom shapes.

13. Eyedropper Tool – Used to pick or sample a colour from an image.

14. Zoom Tool – Used to enlarge or reduce the view of an image.

15. Hand Tool – Used to move around different parts of an image when zoomed in.

LESSON 2 – DRAWING OBJECTS IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

The following steps can be used to draw objects in Adobe Photoshop:

1. Open Adobe Photoshop.

2. Create a new document.

3. Select the Shape Tool, Brush Tool, or Pencil Tool.

4. Draw simple objects such as:

• A rectangle

• A circle

• A square

• A triangle

• A flower

• A house

• Save the drawing.

LESSON 3 – PAINTING OBJECTS IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP

To paint or colour objects:
