Note: Scratch Programming is taught in Week 9 and Week 10, spanning two (2) weeks. The lessons introduce pupils to the meaning of Scratch, its interface, components, and basic programming concepts, helping them develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
Pupils have previously learned the meaning of coding, the importance of coding, and beginner-friendly programming tools. They have also been introduced to Scratch and learned how to create simple programs using drag-and-drop programming blocks.
This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing the component parts of the Scratch interface and explaining the differences between Scratch 2.0 and Scratch 3.0.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
After learning the basic concepts of coding and using Scratch to create simple animations and programs, pupils are introduced to the Scratch programming environment in greater detail. They will learn that Scratch has different parts, known as the Scratch interface, which provide the tools needed to create, edit, and run programs.
In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of Scratch programming, identify the component parts of the Scratch interface and their functions, and compare Scratch 2.0 with Scratch 3.0 to understand the improvements and new features introduced in the latest version.
LESSON 3 – MEANING OF SCRATCH PROGRAMMING
Scratch programming is a visual programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab that allows users to create animations, games, interactive stories, music, and other digital projects by dragging and dropping programming blocks instead of typing code.
Scratch is designed to help beginners, especially children, learn the basic concepts of computer programming in a simple, fun, and interactive way.
COMPONENT PARTS OF THE SCRATCH INTERFACE
The Scratch interface is the workspace where users create and manage Scratch projects. The major component parts include:
1. Menu Bar – Contains commands such as New, Save, Load, and File options.
2. Toolbar – Provides quick access to commonly used tools and editing options.
3. Blocks Palette – Contains different categories of programming blocks, such as Motion, Looks, Sound, Events, Control, Sensing, Operators, Variables, and My Blocks.
4. Coding Area (Scripts Area) – The workspace where programming blocks are dragged and connected to create programs.
5. Stage – Displays the animation, game, or story when the program is running.
6. Sprite Pane (Sprite List) – Shows all the sprites (characters or objects) used in the project.
7. Sprite Information Area – Displays information about the selected sprite, such as its name, position, size, and direction.
8. Backdrop Pane – Used to add, change, or edit the background of the Stage.
9. Green Flag – Starts or runs the Scratch program.
10. Stop Button – Stops the running Scratch program.

SUMMARY
