WEEK 4 – WRITING: WRITE A EXPOSITORY ESSAY/COMPOSITION

An expository essay is a type of composition that explains, describes, or gives information about a topic. It does not tell stories and does not argue. Its purpose is to teach or explain.

Examples of expository topics: Safe Water, Our School Library, How to Wash Our Hands, Importance of Clean Environment

 

FEATURES OF AN EXPOSITORY ESSAY

1. Title – The title shows what the essay is about.

2. Introduction – The first paragraph introduces the topic.

3. Body Paragraphs – These paragraphs explain the topic in detail. Each paragraph talks about one main idea.

4. Facts and Information – The essay contains facts, explanations, and examples.

5. Simple and Clear Language – Easy words are used so readers can understand.

6. No Personal Opinions – The writer does not argue or give personal feelings.

7. Logical Order – Ideas are arranged from beginning to end in a clear order.

8. Conclusion – The last paragraph summarises the main points.

 

EXAMPLE STRUCTURE

4. Conclusion: Summary of why safe water is important

Summary – An expository essay explains or informs. It uses facts, clear language, and examples. It has an introduction, body, and conclusion.
