LEARNING OUTCOME 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. state the meaning of recycling.

2. identify waste materials that can be recycled.

3. suggest different ways of recycling waste.

4. state two advantages of recycling waste.

RATIONALE

Recycling is a process to convert waste materials into reusable objects. This prevents potentially useful materials from being thrown away or destroyed. It also reduces the consumption of fresh raw materials and saves the environment from pollution.

Recycling is part of the waste disposal hierarchy – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. A wide variety of different materials can be recycled, including paper, plastic, glass, metal, textiles and electronic equipment.

The concept of Reusing Waste or Waste Recycling will enable the pupils to able to convert the solid waste into reusable objects.

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Two bins with about 30 pieces of clean rubbish inside each. Have some paper, some metal tins, some plastic bottles, 3 or 4 bits of cloth and plastic containers.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Many homes have one or two waste that currently used for other thing. For example, paint rubber used for drawing water from the well, milk tin used for making moi moi, etc. The pupils make use of some of these materials on daily basis.
