By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. name five different types of houses.

2. explain how houses in some parts of Nigeria are different from those in other parts.

3. list some factors that affect types of houses.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

charts showing different housing.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION (HOUSING) 

Housing is one of the basic needs of man. People live in houses to protect them from rain, sun, thieves and wild animals.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HOUSING

Different types of building materials are used for different types of houses. Stone, wood, straw, mud, glass and other materials are used to build houses.

People live in different types of houses –

1. The mud house

2. The thatched house

3. The bungalow

4. The storey building

5. The duplex

 

PROVISION AND ACQUISITION OF HOUSES 

People building or acquire houses through –

1. Personal savings

2. Cooperative societies

3. Housing scheme from private or government

4. Mortgage houses

5. Loan from commercial banks

6. Government allocation

LESSON TWO – REVISION AND WEEK 1 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides the pupils to discuss the needs and reasons why people live in the house;

Pupil’s Activities – State the needs and reasons why people live in the house;

3. Lets them identify on a chart showing different types of housing;

Pupil’s Activities – Identify different on a chart showing different types of housing.

4. Lets say the types of housing they lived;

Pupil’s Activities – Stay the types of housing they lived.

5. Discusses the provision and acquisition of houses;

Pupil’s Activities – State the provision and acquisition of houses.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
