This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing the Internet, which allows computers to communicate and share information around the world. Pupils will learn the meaning of the Internet, its uses, a brief history, and common Internet terminologies used while browsing online.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
People all over the world use computers and mobile phones to communicate, learn, search for information, shop, and send messages. These activities are made possible through the Internet.
In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of the Internet, its uses, a brief history, and important Internet terminologies they will encounter while using the Internet.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF THE INTERNET
The Internet is a worldwide network of computers that are connected to one another to share information and communicate.
It enables people to send messages, search for information, watch videos, learn online, and perform many other activities.
USES OF THE INTERNET
The Internet is used to:
1. Search for information.
2. Send and receive emails.
3. Communicate through social media and video calls.
4. Learn through online classes and educational websites.
5. Read news from around the world.
6. Watch videos and listen to music.
7. Buy and sell goods online.
8. Download and upload files.
9. Play online games.
10. Carry out banking and business transactions.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INTERNET
The Internet began as a communication network developed by researchers in the United States of America in the late 1960s.
It was first called ARPANET and was created to allow computers to communicate with one another.
Over the years, more computers and networks were connected, and the Internet became available to schools, businesses, governments, and homes around the world.
Today, the Internet is one of the most important tools for communication, education, business, and entertainment.
LESSON 2 – INTERNET TERMINOLOGIES
1. Website – A website is a collection of related web pages found on the Internet.
2. Web Page – A web page is a single page of information on a website.
3. Web Browser – A web browser is a software application used to access websites on the Internet.

4. URL (Uniform Resource Locator) – A URL is the address of a website on the Internet.

7. Hyperlink (Link) – A hyperlink is a clickable text or picture that takes users to another web page or website.

10. Email (Electronic Mail) – Email is a method of sending and receiving messages through the Internet.

LESSON 3 – INTERNET: PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES
The teacher demonstrates the following practical activities using a computer connected to the Internet:
1. Turn on the computer and connect it to the Internet.
2. Open a web browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox.
3. Identify the address bar and explain that it is where a website address (URL) is typed.
4. Type a website address (URL), for example www.google.com�, and press Enter.
5. Identify the home page of the website.
6. Use the Google Search Engine to search for “Animals in Nigeria” or another simple topic.
7. Click a hyperlink (link) from the search results to open a web page.

SUMMARY
In this lesson, pupils learned that the Internet is a worldwide network of computers connected to share information and communicate with one another.
