By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain the meaning of community.
2. list types of community with examples.

The pupils can identify their community.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Pictures of common places
2. Names of common places

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.
CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Collect as many cans you can to represent houses in a community. Organise the pupils in groups to arrange the cans as house. Ask the pupils, if each of this can represent a house, what can you can this area? Give them as many clue or hints to enable actualize the concept.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation and response to questions.
Teacher’s remark – This is a community where different people live together. Discuss the meaning of a community.

MEANING OF COMMUNITY
A community is a group people living together in a particular area.
A community can be a small or large group of people living or working together for common goals or interests.
Quick Evaluation
1. What is a community?
2. In groups, demonstrate a small and large group settlement. Active teacher participation is required for organising the pupils.
TYPES OF COMMUNITIES
There are two (2) of communities, namely –
1. Rural community
2. Urban community
LESSON 2 – RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES
Teacher’s Activities – In groups, ask the pupils to organise the cans in small and large communities. Note – allocate the same space for the pupils to arrange the cans in small and large communities.
Examine and discuss.
Pupil’s Activities – Response to questions is required.
Teacher’s remark – Listen to the pupils and give a great cheer. The small community is call rural community while the large community is called urban community.

Rural Communities are communities with few people and few business.
There are a lot space in rural communities.
For example,
1. villages
2. Most of the new site especially in Lagos started as rural communities.
Urban Communities are communities with too many people living together. Little or no space in urban communities.
For example, cities and town.

1. differentiate between rural and urban communities.
2. Use different cans to show rural and urban communities.
REVISION AND WEEK LESSON ASSESSMENT
As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discuss meaning and types of communities.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the class discussion.
3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
