CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever seen a beautiful picture made with many small pieces of coloured paper, tiles, or stones? Instead of using paint, artists arrange and stick these small pieces together to create colourful designs. This type of artwork is called mosaic.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of mosaic, the materials and tools used for making mosaic, and the steps involved in creating a simple mosaic artwork.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF MOSAIC

Mosaic is the art of creating pictures or designs by arranging and sticking small pieces of coloured materials such as paper, glass, stones, seeds, beads, tiles, or fabric onto a surface.

MATERIALS FOR MAKING MOSAIC

The following materials can be used to make mosaic artwork:

1. Coloured paper

2. Cardboard

3. Coloured tiles

4. Small stones or pebbles

5. Seeds or beans

6. Beads

7. Fabric pieces

8. Bottle caps

TOOLS FOR MAKING MOSAIC

The tools commonly used include:

SUMMARY
