CONTENT OF THE LESSON
MEANING AND IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY
WHAT IS A FAMILY?
A family is a group of two or more people living together. Family is made up of father, mother and their children. That’s,
1. Father and mother are family.
2. Father, mother and their child/ren are family.
3. Other family members are part of the the family.
WHO ARE THE FAMILY MEMBERS?
Family members are other people who are related to us. They include –
1. Father
2. Mother
3. Bother(s)/Sister(s)
4. Uncle/Aunt
5. Grandfather/grandmother
THE ROLES/IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY MEMBERS
Family members have an important roles to play –
1. The father provides for and protects the family.
2. The mother cares for the home and children.
3. The children obey their parents and assist with house chores.
4. Uncle and Aunt care and support you at all time.
5. Grandfather and grandmother love and care for their children and their children’s children. They are caregivers, teachers and playmates of the family.
LESSON PRESENTATION
To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher displays chart showing family members.
2. Teacher point to the chart and lets the children identify and describe the chart.
Children’s Activities – The children identify and describe each member of the family.
4. Teacher uses the chart and the children’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and explain the meaning and roles/importance of the family members.
Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction, understand the meaning and roles/importance of the family members.
5. Teacher summarizes the lesson by asking the children questions based on the lesson taught and gives the children work to do at home.
Children’s Activities – The children participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to the questions and do their homework at home.
