ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned about government emergency lines and the agencies to contact during emergencies, including the Police, LASTMA, and Lagos State Emergency Service.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils about different personnel and agencies that can be contacted during emergencies and their primary duties.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Emergencies such as crime, road accidents, fire outbreaks, traffic problems, and unsafe food or medicines can happen at home, in school, on the road, or in the community.

Different emergencies require the help of different personnel and government agencies. Knowing the right person or agency to contact helps people receive assistance quickly and safely.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about the Police, Neighbourhood Watch, FRSC, LASTMA, Fire Service, and NAFDAC, their duties, and the situations in which they should be contacted.

LESSON 1 AND LESSON 2 – MEANING OF EMERGENCY PERSONNEL

Emergency personnel are trained people who help to protect lives, property, and the environment during emergencies and dangerous situations.

PERSONNEL AND AGENCIES TO CONTACT

1. Police

The Police help to maintain law and order, prevent crime, protect lives and property, and respond to security emergencies.

Contact the Police when: there is a crime, theft, violence, threat, or other security danger.

2. Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch members help to monitor the community and report suspicious activities to the appropriate security authorities.

Contact them when: there is suspicious activity or a security concern in the neighbourhood.

3. Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)

The FRSC helps to promote road safety and respond to road traffic crashes and emergencies.

Contact FRSC when: there is a road accident or serious road traffic emergency.

4. LASTMA

LASTMA means Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. It helps to manage traffic and respond to traffic-related incidents in Lagos.

Contact LASTMA when: there is a serious traffic problem or traffic-related emergency.

5. Fire Service

The Fire Service responds to fire outbreaks and helps to rescue people and property during fire emergencies.

Contact Fire Service when: there is a fire outbreak or a situation requiring fire rescue.

6. NAFDAC

NAFDAC means National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. It regulates food, drugs, and other regulated products to protect public health.

Contact NAFDAC when: there is a suspected problem involving unsafe, fake, adulterated, or improperly regulated food or medicines.

LESSON 3 – IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING WHO TO CONTACT

Knowing the right emergency personnel helps people to:

1. Get help quickly.

2. Report emergencies correctly.

3. Protect lives and property.

4. Prevent further danger.

5. Promote safety in the community.

Safety note: During a serious emergency, pupils should immediately inform a trusted adult and use the appropriate official emergency channel.

SUMMARY
