WEEK 8 – APPLICATION OF SCRATCH PROGRAMMING TO DRAW BASIC SHAPES

MEANING OF SCRATCH PROGRAMMING

Scratch is a simple programming software used by pupils to create drawings, animations, and games using blocks instead of typing codes.

 

IMPORTANCE OF USING SCRATCH TO DRAW SHAPES

1. It makes learning fun and easy.

2. It helps pupils understand basic programming.

3. It develops thinking and creativity.

4. It improves computer skills.

 

DRAWING SHAPES IN SCRATCH

In Scratch, we use motion and pen blocks to draw shapes like lines, squares, rectangles, and circles.

 

TOOLS / BLOCKS USED TO DRAW SHAPES IN SCRATCH

1. Pen Blocks

Pen down – starts drawing

Pen up – stops drawing

Set pen colour – changes colour

Set pen size – changes line thickness

 

2. Motion Blocks

Move steps – moves the sprite forward

Turn degrees – turns the sprite left or right

 

3. Control Blocks

Repeat – repeats steps to form shapes

 

STEPS TO DRAW A SQUARE IN SCRATCH

1. Open Scratch.

2. Click on Add Extension → Pen.

3. Choose a sprite (e.g. Cat).

4. Use Pen down.

5. Use Move 100 steps.

6. Use Turn 90 degrees.

7. Repeat the steps 4 times.

8. Use Pen up.
