LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. read a simple story with understanding.

2. identify missing words in sentences.

3. choose the correct words to complete sentences.

4. use correct tense forms (present and past) in context.

5. construct meaningful sentences from a given passage.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils have previously learned to read simple passages and identify meanings of words in context. In this lesson, they will use that knowledge to fill in missing words in a story to form meaningful sentences.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Printed materials containing a short reading passage with gaps

2. Flashcards containing missing words

3. Pictures related to the story (e.g. school, friends, market, zoo)

4. Pupils’ notebooks and writing materials

5. Word bank/word box for filling in gaps

6. Reading passage handouts (where available)

INSTRUCTION – Choose the correct word in brackets.

STORY 1 – The Honest Boys

Bola and Tunde are classmates.
