CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Every day, people perform different roles at home, in school, and in the community. For example, a teacher teaches, a doctor treats patients, and a police officer maintains law and order. Sometimes, pupils pretend to be these people during classroom activities to understand their duties better. This activity is called role play.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of role play, its functions and uses, and the differences between role play and acting. They will also participate in a simple classroom role-play activity.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF ROLE PLAY

Role play is an activity in which people pretend to be different characters or act out real-life situations in order to learn, practise, communicate ideas, or solve problems.

FUNCTIONS OF ROLE PLAY

Role play helps to:

1. Develop communication skills.

2. Improve self-confidence.

3. Teach problem-solving skills.

4. Encourage teamwork and cooperation.

5. Improve creativity and imagination.

6. Help people understand the feelings and experiences of others.

7. Make learning more interesting and practical.
