LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. discuss safety precautions on the roads.

2. identify some of the roads and their meaning.

3. describe some of the road signs.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can describe the traffic light.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of showing chart of traffic light.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY 

Safety means keeping yourself and others free from harm or danger. That’s being careful not to fall, bump or run into things. In order to keep ourselves, other and things safe, there is need to observe and obey all safety precautions.

One of the ways to keep ourselves free from harm or danger is to obey the road signs.

 

ROAD SIGNS AND THEIR MEANING 

Road Signs are signs designed along the road, across or above to give instructions to the road users. Road signs are important safety precaution on the roads. It designed for both drivers, passengers and other road users.

It is also known as traffic signs. There are many road signs. Here are some of them,

1. Traffic lights

2. Zebra crossing

3. No packing

4. No entry

5. No U – turn

6. Men at work, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND THEIR MEANING 

Traffic lights are lights that tell the driver to stop, get ready or go. It is used to control traffic at the place the roads.

Traffic lights are in three (3) colours –

1. Red

2. Yellow

3. Green

 

 

Traffic Lights Song 

Red means stop.

Yellow means get ready to go.

Green means go.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps – he/she,

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in lesson review.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing traffic lights for the pupils to identify and describe.

4. Teacher uses the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson – traffic lights are important safety precautions on the roads.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

5. Teacher leads a discussion on the safety precautions on the road such as walking on the road, how to cross the road, the use of pedestrian bridge, etc. by following all the set rules and regulations.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion.

6. Teacher uses songs to explain the traffic lights, colours and their meaning.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils sing and explain traffic light colours.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
