LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. discuss safety precautions at home.

2. mention safety precautions to be taken at home.

3. describe some of the safety precautions to be taken at home.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can state the uses of knife, blade, pressing iron, drug, etc.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of showing knife, blade, pressing iron, drug, etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY 

Safety means keeping yourself and others free from harm or danger. That’s being careful not to fall, bump or run into things. In order to keep ourselves, other and things safe, there is need to observe and obey all safety precautions.

One of the ways to keep ourselves free from harm or danger is to stay away from something that can harm us at home such as knife, blade, fire, chemicals, pressing iron and other electrical appliances.

 

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AT HOME 

Safety precautions at home are the actions taken to ensure that we are protected from possible danger or injury at home.

To protect ourselves at home, we must –

1. Stay away from chemical, fire, electrical appliances, etc.

2. Don’t go to the swimming pool alone.

3. Stay away from uncontrollable pet like dog, cat, etc.

4. Don’t open door for a stranger.

5. Look the doors and windows properly.

6. Check all doors and windows if they are properly locked.

7. Turn off all unused electrical appliances.

8. Keep valuable materials properly.

9. Know your neighbours very well.

10. Call for help during emergency, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AT HOME (PARENTS) 

Home safety precautions to protect your children are as follows:

1. Keep all household chemicals away from children.

2. Electrical materials must be well childproofed and connected.

3. Install smoke, fire and glass detector alarms.

4. Don’t leave children inside the pool alone.

5. Secure all openings in the House.

6. Keep valuable items and toys in secure locations.

7. Keep first aid kit at home.

8. Don’t leave your kids with aggressive pets alone.

9. Know your neighbours very well.

10. Educate your children on safety rules.

11. Inform your neighbours if you are travelling.

12. Turn off all unused electrical appliances, if no one is at home.

 

REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps –

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson based on the pupil’s related knowledge or experience.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in lesson review.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher asks pupils as groups to state the uses of knife and blade.

4. Teacher asks pupils, what happens if it is handle carelessly?

5. Teacher guides pupils to mention other objects at home that can cause harm us.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state the danger of harmful objects at home.

6. Teacher uses the pupils relevant to introduction the lesson – safety precautions at home.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction in order to understand the concept of the lesson.

7. Teacher leads a discussion on safety discussion at home and how parents can protect their children.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion and analyze the importance of safety precautions at home.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
