CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
People earn money by working, but it is not wise to spend all the money they earn. Keeping some money for future use is called saving. People can save money in different ways, such as using a piggy bank, a savings box, or keeping it in a bank account. Banks also help people keep their money safe and make it easy to save for future needs.
In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of savings, the traditional and modern methods of saving, the types of banks, and the steps involved in opening a bank account.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF SAVINGS
Savings means keeping part of your money for future use instead of spending all of it immediately.
People save money to meet future needs, pay school fees, start a business, or handle emergencies.
TRADITIONAL METHODS OF SAVING
Traditional methods of saving include:
1. Keeping money in a piggy bank.
2. Keeping money in a savings box.
3. Saving money with trusted family members.
4. Saving through local savings groups (Ajo or Esusu).
