The Use of Hijab in Lagos State Schools

CIRCULAR ON THE USE OF HIJAB IN LAGOS STATE SCHOOLS- GUIDELINES

With reference to the Head of Service Circular No. 068 dated 5th December, 2022 on ‘The Use of Hijab in Lagos State Schools’, it is hereby notified for general information that the following are the approved Guidelines to steer seamless use of Hijab in State Schools:

i. the use of the Hijab must be voluntary (no student should be compelled to use Hijab against her will);

ii. the length of the Hijab must be below the bust;

iii. it must be of a simple and plain colour that matches the school uniform;

iv. it must be the colour of the approved school uniform;

v. it must be smart, neat, and devoid of inscription, markings, decorative designs, stones or any attached rope;

vi. it must bear the school badge and be in the same spot assigned for badges on the school uniform; and

vii. the Hijab must show the outline of the face, showing the eyes, nose and mouth.

4. Accordingly, Accounting Officers of State Schools should ensure that the Guidelines are strictly adhered to and any school Principal who deviates from these Guidelines as specified above shall face appropriate disciplinary action in line with Extant Rules and Regulations.
