ENGLISH LANGUAGE THIRD TERM EXAMINATION SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS (SS 2) EXAM QUESTIONS

SECTION A – COMPREHENSION

INSTRUCTION – Read the following passage carefully and answer the QUESTIONS.

IF WOMEN GO UNCLAD, MEN WILL STOP STARING

Some years ago, while walking somewhere on the streets of Lagos, Some young Jobless men shouted at a woman walking past, “ Sister, cover your bosoms, she wasn’t unclad, really, Just wearing a low neckline blouse which l thought was not inappropriate, for a very hot Lagos weather.

Well l turned round and responded to those guys,“ Why should she cover them when you can take your dirty eyes away? For effect, l struck out my tongue at them and walked away. l didn’t wait to see if the girl involved appreciated my unpaid solicitation or not l did it more for myself than for her.

Sometimes a woman needs some air on her body and l don’t think she should always factor some yeye guys into equation.

Anyway, in the past few days, l have spent some time vacating in New york city. The weather is warm, not as hot as Nigeria. But for people who probably live in perpetual cold weather, it seems a big deal. One thing l noticed is that everybody is wearing something short and with a low neckline. Young, Old, fat, thin, obese, voluptuous, everybody seems to want to get sometimes, l am walking on the street and wondering if l could cut my jeans into pieces too just to prove a point.

l also noticed that even though the women are exposed, their men are not starting; Unlike Naija Men who hiss when they see a woman in bum shorts even through all sorts of thoughts are running in their minds, the guys here are not even looking twice. When you are surrounded by too much flesh, It is likely to move you much, l guess.

As an aside, l think Nigerian men molest in the first place because the women are too covered. If we let them see what we are hiding, l suppose they’ll lose the taste. Well, that’s what l think. l have a feeling it will work if we try it.

So, here is how to solve the problem with Naija men who cannot get out of their heads that sometimes women dress scantily because the weather is not , let all women wear something scanty, especially when the weather demands it. We need to l know a lot of folks are not going to like this – do away with the mystique of a covered up body because there is really none. When we find out that behind all those long skirts are legs made of flesh and bones, When they find that cleavage is just a mass of flesh, they’ll look for other idleness because there’ll be so many of those things that they won’t even care to stare.

SUMMARY

Read the passage and answer the questions.

Impure water can be purified in several ways, The simple way is by filtering. Large quantities of water can be filtered using a clean white sheet of cloth folded several times. Another way is to prepare a simple filter bed. This kind of bed helps to remove solid particles from water. To make water safer for drinking, chemicals are added to kill harmful micro – organisms. An example is chlorine. The best way to get pure water is by distillation. This involves boiling the water. The steam produced is condensed by cooling to form pure water.
