PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. sort and classify numbers of objects in a group or collection.
2. identify number of objects in a group or collection.
3. count and read correctly from 1 – 9.
4. write correctly number 6 – 9.
5. arrange the numbers 6 – 9 in order of their magnitudes (quantities).

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of counters such as
1. Counters: balls, pebbles, buttons, bottle tops, leaves and oranges etc.

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Guides pupils to mix the collection and sort out books, keys, pencils, rulers and biro together.
Pupil’s Activities – Sort and classify the mixed collection e.g. Collection of books, keys, pencils, rulers and biro.
3. Guides pupils to classify each group of similar objects as follows.
- Count out five pencils.
- Add one pencil to it.
4. Leads pupils to recognize this as 6 i.e. 5 pencils and 1 pencil gives 6.
5. Counts out 6 pencils and adds 1 pencil to it and leads them to recognize it as 7 up to 9 buttons etc.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify the numbers 6 – 9 through the activities and the use of Flash cards.
6. Guides pupils to read the numbers 1 – 9.
Pupil’s Activities – Count and read numbers 1 – 9 on the board and Flash cards.
7. Guides pupils to write the numbers 1 – 9.
Pupil’s Activities – Write the numbers 1 – 9.
8. Arranges the numbers in order of their magnitude using objects such as balls, pebbles, etc. in a collection.
9. Leads pupils to write the numbers in order of their magnitudes.
Pupil’s Activities – Use collection of objects to arrange numbers in magnitude or in ordering form.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
