CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
A play is a story written to be acted on a stage by actors or pupils. It contains dialogue and actions performed before an audience.
FEATURES OF A PLAY
1. Title of the play
2. Characters
3. Dialogue or conversation
4. Stage directions
5. Scenes and acts
STEPS IN WRITING A PLAY
1. Choose a topic or theme.
2. Create characters for the story.
3. Divide the play into scenes or acts.
4. Write dialogues for the characters.
5. Add stage directions where necessary.
6. End the play with a lesson or conclusion.
EXAMPLE OF A SHORT PLAY
1. Title: Honesty Pays
2. Characters: Tunde, Mother, Teacher
3. Scene One
- Mother: Tunde, please help me buy bread from the shop.
- Tunde: Yes, Mother.
- (Tunde goes to the shop and finds some money on the ground.)
- Tunde: I found some money. I should return it to the owner.
4. Scene Two – (Tunde takes the money to his teacher in school.)
- Teacher: You are a very honest boy, Tunde.
- Tunde: Thank you, sir.
- Teacher: Honesty always brings reward.

A SHORT PLAY ON HARD WORK AND OBEDIENCE
Title: The Reward of Hard Work
Characters – Mother, Tolu, Teacher, Principal
Scene One – At home
- Mother: Tolu, have you finished your homework?
- Tolu: Yes, Mother. I also cleaned my room and washed the plates.
- Mother: Very good. Hard work and obedience will always help you succeed.
- Tolu: Thank you, Mother. I will continue to obey you and work hard.
Scene Two – In the classroom
- Teacher: Class, our test results are ready. Tolu came first in the class.
- Pupils: Congratulations, Tolu!
- Tolu: Thank you, everyone.
- Teacher: Tolu is always hardworking and obedient. That is why he performs well in school.
Scene Three – At the school assembly
- Principal: We are proud of Tolu for being hardworking and obedient. He is a good example to other pupils.
- Tolu: Thank you, sir. I will continue to do my best.
- Principal: Hard work and obedience always bring success and reward.
MORAL LESSON
Hard work and obedience lead to success and good reward.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson by asking pupils if they have ever watched or acted in a drama or play.
Pupils’ Activities: The pupils respond to the teacher’s questions and share their experiences about plays or dramas.
2. The teacher organizes the pupils into groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

3. The teacher presents a sample play and guides the pupils to read the dialogues aloud.
