By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

In our daily communication, people send letters to express happiness or sadness.

When we receive such letters, it is important to reply politely. This is called acknowledging receipt of a letter.

We often acknowledge:

  • Letters of congratulations (when someone praises or celebrates us)
  • Letters of sympathy (when someone shows concern during sad situations)

To acknowledge receipt of a letter means to reply and confirm that you have received a letter sent to you. 

LETTER OF CONGRATULATIONS

This is a letter sent to show happiness and praise someone for success or achievement.

Example: Congratulations on your success in the examination.

LETTER OF SYMPATHY

This is a letter sent to show concern or sadness when someone is going through a difficult situation.

Example: I am sorry for your illness or loss.

Pupils should learn how to acknowledge letters properly using correct and p olite expressions.
