BASIC SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
SMASE – ASEI PDSI METHOD
TOPIC: Drawing Instructions (Basic Preparation)
Lesson One – Meaning of Drawing Instruments
Lesson Two – Identification and Uses of Drawing Instruments
Lesson Three – Cares of Drawing Instruments
TIME – 40 Minutes each.
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. explain the meaning of drawing.
2. identify drawing instruments.
3. state the names and use(s) of each drawing instrument.
4. draw some objects using some of the drawing instruments.
Drawing is a way of making marks to represent an object. You can’t have technology without making something first. And this requires accurate designs to be drawn. Common drawing instruments are set square, French curve, divider, compass, drawing board, metre rule, T-square, protractor, pencil, sharpener, and eraser.
It is important therefore that children are exposed to the practice of drawing early enough to enable them to develop the skills of technical drawing.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Drawing board
2. A complete mathematical set
4. T – square
5. Paper or cardboard
6. A chart showing various drawing instruments.
7. A chart showing all drawing instruments and their uses.
Each drawing instrument is designed for a specific job. Some of these pupils know about the following basic drawing instruments.
