CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

People from different ethnic groups live together in many Nigerian communities. Sometimes, disagreements may occur among them.

A community leader is a person who leads and guides people in a community. Community leaders help people to settle disagreements, promote peace, encourage unity, and work together.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about the duties of community leaders in ensuring peaceful co-existence between different ethnic groups.

LESSON 1 AND LESSON 2 – DUTIES OF COMMUNITY LEADERS IN ENSURING PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE BETWEEN ETHNIC GROUPS

A person who leads and guides people in a community.

Community leaders play an important role in helping people from different ethnic groups live together peacefully.

DUTIES OF COMMUNITY LEADERS IN ENSURING PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE BETWEEN ETHNIC GROUPS

1. Promote peace – Encourage people to live peacefully with one another.

2. Settle disputes – Help people resolve disagreements peacefully.

3. Treat everyone fairly – Avoid favouring one ethnic group over another.
