English Studies – Primary 6 Weekly Short Class Lesson Notes for Second Term

WEEK 3 – SUPPLEMENTARY READING: ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

SUPPLEMENTARY READING: SHARING AND DISCUSSION

Supplementary reading is reading beyond the main textbooks. Pupils read stories, fables, or short passages, and then share their understanding with others.

This helps pupils to:

1. Improve reading comprehension

2. Learn good morals and values

3. Connect lessons from stories to daily life

STEPS FOR PUPILS

1. Read the story carefully – Read slowly and understand the main ideas. Highlight words or phrases you do not understand.

2. Share the story with others – Tell your friends or classmates what the story is about. Take turns reading aloud in class.

3. Discuss the lessons learnt – Think about the main message of the story. Ask questions like:

  • What can I learn from this story?
  • What was the right thing to do?
  • What was the wrong thing in the story?

4. Relate the story to daily life – Think of ways the lessons apply to your life. Example: If the story is about honesty, you can say: “I should always tell the truth at school and at home.”
