LEARNING OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. differentiate between sport facilities and equipments.

2. state the sport facilities and equipments.

3. investigate the reasons for maintenance of sport facilities and equipments.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and state sport facilities and equipments.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts showing some of the sport facilities and equipments.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A sport is a game or physical activity that people compete against each other individually or as a team.

According to the World Sports Encyclopaedia (2003), there are 8,000 indigenous sports and sporting games.

The most common and popular sport games are as follows:

  • Athletics
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Baseball
  • Table tennis
  • Lawn tennis
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Badminton
  • Rugby

Each of the above sport game has specify kits, facilities and equipments.

 

SPORT FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS 

SPORT FACILITIES 

A sport facility is any place where sport game is held.

A sport facilities can be a stadium, building, sport venue or any place where people meet to engage in physical exercise or witness sporting events.

For examples – football pitch, gymnasiums, health spas, boxing arenas, swimming pools, roller and ice rinks, billiard halls, bowling alleys, etc.

 

SPORT EQUIPMENTS 

Sport equipments are the tools, materials, apparel, and gear used to compete in a sport and varies depending on the sport.

The equipment ranges from balls, nets, rackets, bat, mitt and protective gear like helmets.

 

 

LESSON 2 – MAINTENANCE OF SPORT FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS 

Maintenance is an activity that should be carried out on regular basis in order to keep sport facilities and equipments in good working condition.

The reasons for regular maintenance of sport and facilities and equipments are as follows:

1. It makes our equipment last long.

2. It prevents us from dangers. For example, accidents at home or in the school.

3. It saves us from embarrassment.

4. It prevents our equipments and materials from rustling.

5. It beautifies our home and environment.

6. It reduces (saves) waste of money.

 

 

LESSON 3 REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pair depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing sport games.

4. Teacher asks pupils as group or pair to identify and describe each sport game with appropriate facilities and equipments.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state the facilities and equipments used for sport like football, hockey, volleyball, etc.

5. Teacher listens to the pupils and use the chart and their responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

6. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning of sport facilities and equipments.

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between sport facilities and equipments with appropriate examples.

7 Teacher asks pupils to state the available sport facilities and equipment in the school.

Pupil’s Activities – State the available sport facilities and equipments in the school.

8. Teacher displays the available sport equipment in the school.

9. Teacher asks pupils why the sport equipments are kept in the safety box or room.

10. Teacher uses pupil’s responses to lead a discussion on the reasons for maintenance of sport facilities and equipments.

Pupil’s Activities – State the reasons why should sport facilities and equipments should be maintained.

11. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
