CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
A government is the system whereby group of people governing an organized community, often a state.
FORMS/TYPES OF GOVERNMENT
The form of government are –
1. Democracy
2. Presidential
3. Parliamentary
4. Totalitarian
5. Oligarch
6. Dictatorship/Military
LESSON 2 – MEANING OF DEMOCRACY
Democracy is the form of government of the people by the people.
MEANING OF PARLIAMENTARY
Parliamentary is the form of government ruled by the prime minister.
The head of state is different from the head of government in parliamentary system of government.
MEANING OF PRESIDENTIAL
Presidential is the form of government ruled by the elected president.
The head of state is the head of head government in presidential system of government.
MEANING OF TOTALITARIAN
Totalitarian is the form of government where the citizens are subject to absolute authority without questioning.
MEANING OF MONARCH
Monarch is the form of government ruled by the King or Queen, hereditary or succession. No end to tenure.
This is also known as government of Kings and Queens.
MEANING OF OLIGARCH
Oligarchy is the form of government by only few people who are privileged or powerful.
MEANING OF DICTATORSHIP
Dictatorship is the form of government where a person or group of people possess absolute power without constitutional limitation.
For example, the military rule.
LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Displays a chart showing different form of government.
3. Allows the pupils to analyze the chart.
Pupil’s Activities – Extract the concept of the chart.
4. Uses the chart and their view points to introduce the lesson and explain the concept of government.
- Also, discuss different form of government.
Pupil’s Activities – Listen attentively.
5. Summarizes each lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
