2. state types of National Honour Awards.

The pupils can identify chieftain titles and different awards given to people in their community.

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION (MEANING) 

NATIONAL HONOUR AWARDS 

National Honours Award is an award on members of the society for their contributions towards national development.

These awards were instituted by the National Honors Act No. 5 of 1964, during the First Nigerian Republic, to honour Nigerians who have rendered service to the benefit of the nation.

 

TYPES OF NATIONAL HONOURS

National honours are awards that are officially given to person for his/her contributions to the national development.

 

There awards are –

1. GCFR

2. GCON

3. CFR

4. CON

5. OFR

6. OON

7. MFR

8. MON

 

LESSON 2 – CONTINUATION

1. GCFR

Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic. This honour is meant for the President and Vice-president, including Military Heads of State of Nigeria and Chiefs of General Staff.

 

2. GCON

 

Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.

This honour is meant for the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the President of the Nigerian Senate.

 

3. CFR

Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – President

 

4. CON

Commander of the Order of the Niger.

This honour meant for Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria

 

5. OFR

Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

 

6. OON

Officer of the Order of the Niger.

 

7. MFR

Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.

Member of the Order of Niger.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

 

2. Displays charts showing symbols of award.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the objects of awards.

3. Displays charts showing objects of National Awards.

4. Explains the meaning and types of National Awards.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation and identify National Honour Award.

5. Assists pupils in mentioning the various National Honours Award bestowed on deserving members of the society.

Pupil’s Activities – Accept the teacher’s assistance to describe different awards.

6. Gives examples of such awardees in your community.

Pupil’s Activities – State people that are awarded in their community.

7. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher instructed.
