CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Puberty is the time when your body begins to develop and change as you grow into young adult. That’s, the time in life when a boy or girl becomes sεxuálly mature. It is usually takes place between the ages of 11 to 13 year in girls and 12 to 14 years in boys.
Puberty is a normal part of life for teens, but it can also be a difficult time for many. During puberty, teens experience physical and emotional changes that can affect their mental health.
CHANGES IN BOYS DURING PUBERTY
The following are the notable changes in boys –
1. Boys grow slowly than the girls but later catch up and grow faster and bigger than the girls.
2. Pimples appear and disappear with time.
3. The chest becomes broader.
4. The voice becomes thicker.
5. The shoulder becomes broader.
6. Public hairs start growing at the armpits and private part (in between the legs).
7. Semén production begins and may discharge during sleep.
CHANGES IN GIRLS DURING PUBERTY
The following are the notable changes in girls –
1. Girls grow taller than the boys at this initial this time.
2. Pimples appear and disappear with time.
3. The breást develop.
4. The voice becomes thinner.
5. The hip becomes broader.
6. Public hairs start growing at the armpits and private part (in between the legs).

LESSON 2 – PHYSICAL CHANGES THAT OCCUR IN PUBERTY
Puberty is a normal part of life for teens, but it can also be a difficult time for many. During puberty, teens experience physical and emotional changes that can affect their mental health.
1. Both boys and girls experience a noticeable increase in height and weight.
2. Pubic hair and underarm hair appear, and boys may also develop facial hair.
3. Girls experience breâst development and widening of hips.
4. Boys’ voices deepen, sometimes cracking or breaking before settling into a lower pitch.
5. Acne, increased sweating, and for girls, the onset of menstruation (menarche).
6. Genital growth, potential for erections and nocturnal emissions (wet dreams).
7. For girls – menstruation, which involves monthly shedding of the uterine lining.
EMOTIONAL CHANGES THAT OCCURS IN PUBERTY
1. Hormonal fluctuations can lead to rapid shifts in mood, from happy to sad, irritable, or anxious.
2. Children may become more easily upset or sensitive to criticism.
3. Feelings of anxiety about physical changes, social situations, and new sεxuál feelings are common.
4. Children may start to assert their independence and seek more autonomy from their parents.
5. Peer groups become more important, leading to potential peer pressure.
6. Children may experience sεxuál feelings for the first time and have questions about sex and relationships.
7. Emotions can feel more intense and overwhelming, and it’s important to have healthy coping mechanisms.

LESSON 3 – IMPORTANCE OF PUBERTY IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT
1. It is a period of physical growth and development such as growth of sεxuál organs, increase in height, development of secondary sεxuál characteristics such as breasts in girls and facial hair in boys.
2. It is a period of brain development which include changes in cognitive abilities, emotional regulation, and social behavior.
3. It is a period of self-discovery and identity formation.
4. It is a period of self-awareness, and shifts in social relationships.
5. It is a period where children start developing sεxuál feelings and desires. It is important for parents and caregivers to provide appropriate support and guidance during this time.
