ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned the meaning of Microsoft PowerPoint and how to type and save a PowerPoint presentation. They learned how to enter simple text into the title and content placeholders.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils how to add more text to slides and format the text by changing the font, font size, font colour, and text style to make presentations more attractive and easier to read.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Typing information on a slide is only the first step in creating a good presentation. To make the presentation attractive and easy to read, the text can be changed in different ways, such as making it bold, changing its colour, increasing its size, or selecting a different font.

In this lesson, pupils will learn how to add text to Microsoft PowerPoint slides and format the text using different formatting tools.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF ADDING TEXT

Adding text means typing words, numbers, or sentences into a PowerPoint slide to provide information.

Text can be added to:

  • Title placeholders
  • Content placeholders
  • Text boxes

HOW TO ADD TEXT IN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT (PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES USING COMPUTER)

1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint.

2. Open a blank presentation or an existing presentation.

3. Click inside the Title or Content placeholder.

4. Type the required text using the keyboard.

5. Click outside the placeholder when you finish typing.

LESSON 2 – MEANING OF FORMATTING TEXT

Formatting text means changing the appearance of text to make it neat, attractive, and easy to read.

Formatting helps improve the presentation of information on a slide.

HOW TO FORMAT TEXT IN MICROSOFT POWERPOINT (PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES USING COMPUTER)

After selecting the text, you can use the Home tab to:

1. Change the Font – Select a different font style such as:

  • Arial
  • Calibri
  • Times New Roman

2. Change the Font Size – Increase or decrease the size of the text.

3. Change the Font Colour – Select different colours to make the text attractive.

4. Make the Text Bold Bold text makes words appear darker and thicker.

5. Make the Text Italic – Italic text makes words slant to one side.

6. Underline the Text – Underline adds a line beneath the selected text.

7. Change Text Alignment – Text can be aligned:

  • Left
  • Centre
  • Right

SUMMARY
