PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives – demonstrate how to use basic shapes.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can make simple patterns using basic shapes.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Diagrams of Basic shapes, Pencils, Colour Pencils, Eraser, Drawing books.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Pattern is a repeated decorative design in a definite order.

To design a pattern, it requires shapes of same or different sizes and colours. A shape is a representation of the pattern. That’s, when one or more shapes is/are used to create patterns.

Designing patterns of basic shapes is the process of creating unique patterns using SHAPES. To design means to draw, create or make something.

 

 

DESIGNING PATTERNS USING BASIC SHAPES BY DRAWING 

Teacher guides pupils as groups to create patterns by drawing using any of the following –

1. Triangle only

2. Square only

3. Triangle and square, etc.

 

 

 

LESSON 2 – DESIGNING PATTERNS USING BASIC SHAPES BY CUT AND PASTE

Teacher guides pupils to cut many shapes such triangles, squares and circle to gum and paste on plain paper.

 

 

LESSON 3 – OTHER ACTIVITIES

Teacher pupils to make either of the following using basic shapes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing patterns of basic shapes.

4. Teacher asks pupils as groups to examine and discuss how to make that kinds of patterns.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss how to make the patterns.

5. Teacher uses the chart and pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson, leads and guides the groups to draw patterns using the basic shapes.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and follow the teacher’s instructions to draw patterns using basic shapes.

6. Teachers cuts shapes enough to make craft patterns and uses them to guide pupils to make patterns on plain paper.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils cut and paste shapes to make patterns.

7. Teacher also guides pupils use basic shapes to create things other than patterns.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils use basic shapes to make house, Christmas tree, etc.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
