WEEK 2 – HOCKEY GAME

INTRODUCTION TO HOCKEY GAME

Hockey is a game played by two teams who use sticks to hit a ball or a puck. The aim is to score goals by sending the ball into the opponent’s goal.

HISTORY OF HOCKEY IN NIGERIA

Hockey was introduced to Nigeria by the British during the colonial period. It was first played in schools and military camps.

Later, hockey became popular, and competitions were organized in different parts of the country. The game is now controlled by the Nigeria Hockey Federation, which helps to develop hockey in Nigeria.

Today, hockey is played in many schools and sports festivals in Nigeria, helping pupils to stay fit and learn teamwork.

 

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT USED IN HOCKEY GAME

FACILITIES

Facilities are the places and areas where hockey is played.

1. Hockey Pitch – The field where the game is played.

2. Goal Post – The structure where players score goals.

3. Centre Line – Divides the field into two equal halves.

4. Circle (Shooting Circle) – The area where goals can be scored.

5. Side Lines and Back Lines – Mark the boundaries of the field.
