WEEK 5 – PHYSICAL FITNESS
CONCEPT OF PHYSICAL FITNESS
Physical fitness means being strong, healthy, and able to do daily activities or play sports without getting tired easily. It helps the body stay healthy, avoid sickness, and perform well in sports.
COMPONENTS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS
Physical fitness has different parts, also called components:
A. HEALTH-RELATED COMPONENTS
These help you stay healthy and prevent illness:
1. Cardiorespiratory Endurance – The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen during exercise (e.g., running).
2. Muscular Strength – The power of your muscles to lift or push (e.g., lifting weights).
3. Muscular Endurance – The ability of muscles to work for a long time without getting tired (e.g., cycling).
4. Flexibility – The ability to move joints easily (e.g., bending, stretching).
5. Body Composition – The ratio of fat, muscle, and bones in the body.
B. PERFORMANCE-RELATED COMPONENTS
These help you perform well in sports:
1. Agility – The ability to change direction quickly (e.g., dodging in football).
2. Balance – The ability to stay steady while moving or standing.
3. Coordination – Using eyes, hands, and feet together (e.g., catching a ball).
4. Speed – Moving quickly from one point to another.
5. Power – Strength combined with speed (e.g., jumping high or throwing far).
6. Reaction Time – The time taken to respond to a stimulus (e.g., starting a race after the whistle).
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEALTH-RELATED AND PERFORMANCE-RELATED COMPONENTS
